2 Cor 9:7
Let each one give [thoughtfully and with purpose] just as he has decided in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver [and delights in the one whose heart is in his gift] - AMP

If you're looking for five Scriptures that encourage New Testament giving, here are some of the clearest and most commonly used passages:

  1. 2 Corinthians 9:6–8
"Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously... God loves a cheerful giver."
    • Key lesson: Give willingly, generously, and joyfully—not under pressure.

  1. Acts 20:35
"It is more blessed to give than to receive."
    • Key lesson: Jesus taught that generosity brings blessing.

  1. 1 Corinthians 16:1–2
"On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income..."
    • Key lesson: Giving should be planned, regular, and proportional to God's provision.

  1. Luke 6:38
"Give, and it will be given to you... For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
    • Key lesson: God honors and blesses a generous spirit.

  1. Philippians 4:15–19
Paul thanks the Philippian church for their financial support, calling their gifts "a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God."
    • Key lesson: Giving supports God's work and is an act of worship that pleases Him.

Common themes of New Testament giving

  • Give cheerfully, not reluctantly (2 Corinthians 9:7).
  • Give regularly and intentionally (1 Corinthians 16:2).
  • Give according to your ability (1 Corinthians 16:2).
  • Give to support the work of the gospel and those in need (Philippians 4:15–19; Acts 20:35).
  • Trust God to provide for those who are generous (2 Corinthians 9:8).

These passages emphasize that New Testament giving flows from gratitude, faith, and love rather than compulsion.
